Associate Professor dr. Eglė Zasčiurinskienė

Dr. Eglė Zasčiurinskienė is one of the few orthodontist–researchers in Northern Europe who has dedicated her career exclusively to the orthodontic treatment of patients with periodontitis. A large part of her current clinical practice focuses on patients with Stage III–IV periodontitis and gingival recessions.

After obtaining her orthodontic specialty in 2005 from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, she pursued an academic career. In 2018, she defended her PhD thesis about orthodontic treatment effect in periodontitis patients at Jönköping University, Sweden. This was followed by a postdoctoral project at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, funded by the European Social Fund. Her postdoctoral study described primary and secondary malocclusions in patients with Stage III–IV periodontitis and assessed orthodontic treatment need. Later, 2022 - 2023 she continued as a researcher at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Odontology, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Dr. Eglė is both active researcher at the Orthodontic Clinic, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and clinician in her private practice. Her research abstracts have been selected as oral presentations at European Orthodontic Society congresses for several consecutive years. In addition, she has delivered lectures in conferences and given seminars on the periodontal-orthodontic treatment of patients with Stage III–IV periodontitis both in Lithuania and abroad inspiring and teaching how to manage these complex cases.

Egle is a member of European Orthodontic Society, European Aligner Society, Lithuanian Orthodontic Society and Lithuanian Association of Periodontology. In 2025, she had the honor of being invited to the Angle Society of Europe.

Working hand-in-hand with periodontists, Eglė creates predictable, tooth-preserving treatment plans that turn even the most difficult cases into stable, beautiful smiles — outcomes she generously shares with other clinicians while continuing to learn.

In the lecture Eglė will share her treatment philosophy, present research and clinical findings about the power of combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment of periodontally affected malocclusions.
